Sustainable Development Goals: Two Years On – International Conference
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were unanimously adopted by 193 countries on 25 September 2015 in New York.
The 17 Goals, part of the 2030 Agenda, are an evolution of the Millennium Development Goals as they are more balanced between environmental, social and economic needs. They are also more inclusive: developed countries and the private sector are now called to actively contribute and implement the goals, but also to take its execution as a business opportunity. In fact, the Business and Sustainable Development Commission, in its Better Business, Better World report, puts the “SDGs Prize” at more than $12 trillion a year, about 10% of world GDP in 2030. In Spain alone and despite its high level of development, we estimate that this value would be at least €80 billion per year, or approximately 6% of the GDP.
These big numbers translate the investment challenge. The good news is that never before in the world’s history there was so much capital available for investment at so low interest rates. The real challenge is to put the SDGs into practice through good projects and initiatives.
How are the SDGs being financed and implemented globally and in Spain?
To answer this and other questions and to celebrate the second year of the SDGs, SUST4IN is organizing the Conference Sustainable Development Objectives “Two Years On” in Madrid on 26 September 2017 with high-level speakers from the public and private sectors, including companies with global impacts. The conference aims to confirm and expand the success of the SDGs: One Year On conference organized in 2016, when Prof Jeffrey Sachs and Cristina Narbona, former Spanish Minister of Environment, were our keynote speakers.
